2013 Advisory Committee Election

Election time is here again! The Advisory Committee Election ballots have been sent out, and following is some information about this election.

The Denver Employees Retirement Plan is governed by a Retirement Board appointed by the Mayor. In addition, four non-voting Advisory Committee members serve staggered three-year terms. Three members are elected by the Plan membership, while one Committee member is appointed by the Career Service Board.

The Advisory Committee represents the membership at monthly Board meetings by asking questions of, and offering suggestions to, the Board. Advisory Committee members must attend Retirement Board meetings, generally half-day sessions held in the Plan's office on the third Friday of each month. The Committee is advisory only and its members do not have a vote regarding the operation of the Plan.

The Advisory Committee Election is held on an annual basis. The committee must be made up of at least one elected, vested employee member (a current City or DHHA employee who has five years or more of credited service) and one elected retired member.

All current employees and retired members may vote for the Advisory Committee nominees. An election ballot has been sent to each current employee and retired member, either electronically or by U.S. Mail. The ballots must be received back by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2013. Please do not send completed ballots to the Plan. Instructions and the address where ballots should be sent are on the ballot. The ballots are tallied by the election staff in the City Clerk and Recorder's Office. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes will be elected to serve a three-year term. The elected Advisory Committee member will be announced during the annual membership meeting which will be held on June 14, 2013. Results of the election will also be published in the Plan's July 2013 newsletter and posted on the DERP website.

The current Advisory Committee is comprised of the following individuals:

-Erma D. Zamora, a retired member whose term will expire in June 2013.

-Adeniyi Kelani, Ph.D., a retired member whose term will expire in June 2014.

-Mike Aleksick, a current employee member whose term will expire in June 2015.

-Heather Britton, a current employee member appointed by the Career Service Board whose term will expire in June 2014.
